Shopify Shipping with FedEx by Shippo

If you're shipping from a location in the United States, then you can buy Shopify Shipping labels from FedEx by Shippo. You can ship your packages domestically.

The shipping rates that you are charged are based on Shopify's account with Shippo.

If you want to use your own negotiated rates to purchase FedEx shipping labels and display FedEx calculated rates at checkout, then refer to Activate calculated shipping with FedEx.

Considerations for shipping packages with FedEx by Shippo

Before you install FedEx by Shippo, review the following considerations:

  • FedEx by Shippo ships only domestically within the United States and doesn't support international destinations. To purchase shipping labels through FedEx by Shippo, you need to have a location in the United States.
  • Pickups aren't available with FedEx by Shippo. You need to drop off your packages at a FedEx location.

Install FedEx by Shippo

Before you can buy FedEx labels with Shopify Shipping or your own FedEx account, you need to install the FedEx by Shippo app. This app does not require a Shippo account.

You can install the app from the Shopify App Store or when you are purchasing shipping labels.

Steps:

  1. In the Shipping service section, when purchasing shipping labels, click FedEx by Shippo in Shipping Apps.
  2. Follow the steps to install the FedEx by Shippo app.

After you install the FedEx by Shippo app, FedEx by Shippo shipping services will be available to purchase in the Shipping service section when purchasing shipping labels.

If you have connected your own FedEx account, then you will be charged using your own negotiated rates by FedEx. If you have not connected your own FedEx account, then you will be charged rates based on Shopify's account with Shippo on your Shopify bill.

Domestic shipping with FedEx by Shippo

You can ship domestically within the United States with FedEx by Shippo using the following mail types:

Domestic dangerous goods and hazardous materials with FedEx by Shippo shipments

Shopify Shipping does not support the shipping of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) or FedEx dangerous goods. Packages containing tobacco, vaping products, firearms, alcohol, dry ice, and products containing lithium ion batteries are prohibited. As the shipper, it's your responsibility to understand and comply with all FedEx regulations and guidelines. Although FedEx allows some HAZMAT to be shipped following their rules and regulations, shipments containing these items are prohibited through Shopify Shipping and must be shipped through FedEx directly.

Package requirements for FedEx by Shippo shipments

The maximum values that FedEx by Shippo allows for FedEx Ground® Economy are the following:

  • maximum weight is 70 lb (31 kg)
  • maximum length and girth combined is 130 in (330 cm)
    • for packages under 1 lb (0.4 kg), maximum length and girth combined is 84 in (215 cm)

The maximum values that FedEx by Shippo allows for FedEx Home Delivery® and FedEx Ground® are the following:

  • maximum weight is 150 lb (68 kg)
  • maximum length is 108 in (274 cm)
  • maximum length and girth combined is 165 in (419 cm)

The maximum values that FedEx by Shippo allows for FedEx Express Saver®, FedEx 2Day®, FedEx 2Day® AM, FedEx Standard Overnight® and FedEx Priority Overnight® are the following:

  • maximum weight is 150 lb (68 kg)
  • maximum length is 119 in (302 cm)
  • maximum length and girth combined is 165 in (419 cm)

Require a signature when FedEx by Shippo shipment is delivered

To require a signature when the shipment is delivered, then do either of the following when you buy a shipping label:

  • If anyone can sign, then select Signature required. This service costs 6.35 USD.
  • If the signer must be over the age of 21, then select Adult signature required. This service costs 7.65 USD.

Submitting shipping claims for FedEx by Shippo shipments

If you're using FedEx by Shippo with Shopify Shipping and your FedEx by Shippo shipment is lost, damaged, or late, then you can submit a shipping claim with Shopify Shipping Support.

Included insurance coverage for with FedEx by Shippo shipments

FedEx offers up to 100 USD coverage for lost and damaged packages.

Submit a shipping claim for lost or damaged FedEx by Shippo shipments

If your FedEx by Shippo shipment is lost or damaged, then email Shopify Shipping Support at shipping-claims@shopify.com to track your package and file a claim.

You should submit your claim as soon as you discover that a package was lost or damaged. FedEx must receive notice of a claim within 90 days after delivery of the package or, in case of a lost package, within 90 days after the package was accepted by FedEx. Shopify Shipping Support also needs time to process and direct your claim to FedEx before the liability period expires.

Include the following information in your email:

  • your .myshopify.com address
  • the order number in your Shopify admin
  • the tracking number
  • shipper's full name, email, phone number
  • customer's full name, email, phone number
  • description of the items in the shipment
  • number of items in the shipment
  • retail value of each item
  • total value of the items in the shipment
  • Proof of Value documentation, such as copy of retail invoice or receipt, or copy of order status page

For damaged FedEx by Shippo shipments, you also need to include the following information:

  • description of the damage
  • detailed photographs of the following:
    • damaged external packaging
    • internal packaging
    • damaged contents
    • shipping label attached to the packaging

Submit a shipping claim for late with FedEx by Shippo shipments

If your FedEx by Shippo shipment is late, and you want to track the package and file a claim, then send an email to the following address:

You need to make your claim request within 12 calendar days of the shipping date, the date which the package was dropped off with FedEx.

Include the following in your email:

  • your .myshopify.com address
  • the order number in your Shopify admin
  • the tracking number
  • the date the package was dropped off with FedEx
  • the date the shipment was delivered
