Requirements

To use this hardware with your Shopify store, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • use the Shopify POS app
  • have a compatible iPad or iPhone running iOS 15 or later, or have a compatible Android device running Android 10 or later

For USB connection, you need a USB cable with USB-C to USB-A or USB-C connections, depending on the device you want to connect. USB connection is supported only on Android.

For an Ethernet connection, you need an Ethernet cable.

Where to buy the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer

The Epson TM-m30III receipt printer and printer paper are available from the Shopify Hardware Store in supported countries.

If you're in an unsupported country and want to use the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer, then you must purchase it from a third party.

Plug in your Epson TM-m30III receipt printer

Before you can use the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer, you need to connect your printer to the power supply.

Steps:

  1. Remove the panel on the back of the printer.
  2. Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your receipt printer.
  3. Plug the other end of the cable into a power outlet and turn on the printer.
  4. Reattach the back panel of the printer.

If the paper is loaded, then a diagnostic report prints.

Pair and connect the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with your POS device

To use the Epson TM-m30III receipt printer with Shopify POS, you need to pair the reader with your device through Shopify POS. After the printer and device are paired, the printer connects to the device automatically whenever both are powered on and in range.

Connect with Bluetooth

You can connect your printer using Bluetooth and an iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Steps:

  1. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  2. Load receipt paper.
  3. Open the top panel for loading paper.
  4. With the panel open, press and hold the button to feed paper until the paper light flashes. Release the button and close the panel.
  5. An instruction sheet prints. Quickly press and release the button one time to feed the paper into the printer.
  6. Press and hold the button for around 1 second to feed the paper into the printer. A Bluetooth status sheet prints and the Bluetooth light flashes.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.

Connect with USB

You can connect your printer using a USB cable and an Android device.

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel of the printer.
  2. Remove the bottom panel of the printer.
  3. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  4. Connect a USB-C connection to the printer's USB-PD port, and either a USB-C connection to your device, or a USB-A connection to a USB hub or a retail stand.
  5. After a few moments, the POS app connects to the printer. If prompted by the device, then allow the printer connection.
  6. Tap Done.
  7. Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.
  8. Reattach the bottom panel and back panel of the printer.

Connect with Wi-Fi

You can connect your printer using Wi-Fi and an Android or POS Go device. Ensure that Bluetooth is activated on your POS device and Bluetooth permissions are granted to the POS app before connecting using Wi-Fi.

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel of the printer.
  2. Remove the bottom panel of the printer.
  3. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  4. Load receipt paper.
  5. The POS scans for the printer. When the POS locates an available printer hotspot, confirm that the serial number and model of the printer are correct, and then tap Connect.
    1. Optional: If the POS can't find the printer, then tap Scan again.
    2. Optional: If the POS still can't find the printer, then tap Troubleshooting and follow the instructions to ensure your printer is in SimpleAP mode.
  6. The POS connects to the printer. When it connects, tap Complete Wi-Fi details.
  7. Complete the Wi-Fi details for your network:
    1. Confirm the Network security type.
    2. Confirm the Network name.
    3. Enter the Wi-Fi Password.
  8. Tap Connect.
  9. A list of Wi-Fi networks available to your device display. Tap your Wi-Fi network, and then tap Done.
  10. Tap Done to complete the setup. The printer might take a few minutes to finish setting up and connecting to the POS.

Connect with Ethernet/LAN

You can connect your printer using an Ethernet cable and an iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Steps:

  1. Remove the back panel of the printer.
  2. Remove the bottom panel of the printer.
  3. Load receipt paper.
  4. Connect your printer to the power supply.
  5. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the printer and one to either your router or LAN connection. The printer prints a status sheet after the network is detected.
  6. After a few moments, the POS app connects to the printer.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.
  9. Reattach the bottom panel and back panel of the printer.

ERROR indicator is blinking red

This is caused when there is no paper present in the printer. Open the printer, replace the paper, and close the lid. The ERROR indicator should stop blinking and the READY indicator should light up.

Paper jams

If you feed the paper into the receipt printer at an angle, then a paper jam is likely to happen. If this happens, then turn off the printer, open it up, and feed the paper in again.

If you're trying to make your receipt narrower than the specified 3 inch width, then make sure that you use the divider provided. Don't fold the paper when you feed it into the printer.
