Managing reviews using Product Reviews

You can manage, delete, and reply to the product reviews that you receive directly from your Shopify admin.

Disable automatic publishing for product reviews

By default, new product reviews are automatically published to your online store after they're verified by a spam filter.

If you want more control over which reviews display on your store, then you can choose to manually publish reviews instead. If you disable the auto-publish setting, then new reviews are shown as Unpublished and don't display on your store until you choose to publish them.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. In the Auto-publish section, click Disabled.

  6. Click Save.

Publish an unpublished review

If you disable automatic publishing for product reviews, then you'll need to publish them manually before they display on your store.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Unpublished.

  5. Click the review that you want to publish.

  6. Click Publish.

Unpublish a review

In some cases, you need to remove a review from your online store but not permanently delete it. You can do this by unpublishing it.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Published.

  5. Click the review that you want to unpublish.

  6. Click Unpublish.

Delete a review

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. On the Reviews page, click the review that you want to delete.

  5. Click Delete.

Flag a review as inappropriate

Sometimes, you receive product reviews that are offensive or that look like spam. To flag a review as inappropriate, click Report as inappropriate from the online store view:

These reviews now display in the Flagged tab of the Product Reviews app in your Shopify admin. From there, you can either unpublish any flagged reviews or remove the flag.

Dismiss a flag on a review

Reviews marked as Flagged have been reported by someone on your website as being inappropriate. These reviews should be checked for inappropriate content and either deleted or unflagged.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Flagged.

  5. Click the review that has the flag that you want to dismiss.

  6. On the review page, click Dismiss flag.

Bulk actions

You can publish, unpublish, unflag, or delete reviews in bulk using the Bulk actions menu.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Use the checkboxes to select the reviews you want to change.

  5. From the Bulk actions menu, select the action that you want to perform:

Search reviews

You can search for keywords in the titles of your product reviews by using the search bar.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Enter your search term in the search bar. To be found, the text must be in the title of a review.

  5. Press Enter (or return on Mac).

Sort reviews

You can sort product reviews based on their Rating, Date, or Status.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click the title of the Rating, Date, or Status column.

Reply to reviews

Product Reviews lets you publicly reply to a review. Your reply displays alongside the review on your website. This is very useful for responding to critical or negative reviews in a transparent way.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Product Reviews.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click the review that you want to reply to.

  5. On the review page, enter your reply in the Reply to review field.

  6. When you're done, click Post reply.
