What is Shopify 2?
Shopify 2 is a major update and redesign to the back-end admin of your Shopify store. In addition to a new look and feel, we added a considerable amount of new functionality to help you run your store.
What doesn’t change?
Your Shopify store will look exactly the same to your customers. Only your shop’s admin will be different with Shopify 2. Your new admin will include additional search and filtering features, a live theme editor, and more intuitive paths to all admin functions. Shopify 2 also includes dozens of new features, some of which are outlined below. In the coming months, we will be releasing even more new features and enhancements for your online store.
The Shopify 2 update comes at no extra cost. You won’t pay any more for Shopify 2 even though you get more features.
What are some of the important additions and changes in Shopify 2?
-
In-line editing is now available for variants and inventory. With Shopify 2, you can easily make changes to your inventory or product variants without navigating to another page.

-
Our new filter and search options let you easily and quickly find products, orders or customers anywhere in your admin by typing a keyword or two into the new search bar.

-
Abandoned checkouts are now listed on their own page. You can review the information about each almost-customer and email them a link to continue their checkout process.

-
Order editing lets you partially charge or refund an order without having to cancel it.
You can also easily edit a customer’s shipping address from the Order page.

Where can I get help using Shopify 2?

What’s new with the Shopify Analytics tool?
You can now control the dates displayed in your analytics tool with the date picker. This will help you track your traffic and sales over time, to figure out what promotions, discounts or sales efforts are working.

Where is my Promotions tab?
In your Shopify 2 admin, what used to be called “Promotions” is now called “Discounts.”

Where are all of my images and files stored? In Classic, I could find them under the “Your Account” tab.
With Shopify 2, we wanted to make your uploaded files as easily accessible as possible, so they now exist in their own tab in the Settings section called “Files.” To learn more about file uploads, check out this article.

What’s all this about a live theme editor? How do I use it?
One of the best new features of Shopify 2 is a live theme editor. The live theme editor lets you preview any changes to your theme before you publish the new design. You can change your colors, fonts, and most other theme settings in your admin, then see how it looks on your storefront by clicking on the Preview in new window button.

I noticed a Barcode field on my Products page. What is this for?
This optional field lets you enter the UPC, ISBN, or other number found on manufacturer’s barcode. It is used by our free Google Shopping app.
I’m switching to Shopify 2 from another ecommerce platform. I really like the look of the new admin, but where do I go to add all of my products to my new Shopify store?
Shopify 2 provides a fast, easy way to import your products from another platform. You’ll find an “Import” button in the top righthand corner of your admin, which will prompt you to select “Need to import product from another platform? You’ll then be able to select the importer you need. Some of the Shopify importers available through the import page are Magento, Volusion, Ebay, and Wordpress.
For more detailed instructions on how to import products into Shopify from another platform, check out this article.
What about meta descriptions? How can I use Shopify 2 to improve my store’s SEO?
With Shopify 2, you can edit and customize meta descriptions for your collections, blog posts, pages and products. This will help improve your SEO so that your store shows up higher in search engines when people search for a keyword associate with your brand or products.
To customize a meta description, you will have to edit the page title and/or page descriptions for the collection, page, blog post or product. For example, you can go to the Products page in your admin, click on the product you want to write a meta description for, and scroll down to the “SEO” section. Here you can enter your new meta descriptions.
You can also edit the meta description for your store homepage. The ‘Shop description’ setting is found under Settings > General.
If you installed your store’s theme in the last few months, your new meta descriptions will work automatically. If not, you’ll need to edit your theme to include this snippet as a meta description:
<meta name="description" content="{{ page_description }}" />
On the General page, I noticed there was a Google Analytics code section. What is this and how do i use it?
Shopify 2 supports Google Analytics’ Asynchronous snippet. If you are using the old version of the Google Analytics scripts, you’ll have the option to upgrade to the latest version. We recommend you do select the option to upgrade.
Google Shopping: where did it go?
There’s a brand new app built by Shopify that will automatically sync your store with Google Shopping and list your products on Google Shopping.
