Password protect your storefront

Password protect your storefront

It is possible to set a password for your storefront so that only people with the password can access your store. This is useful if you don't want visitors to access your store while you are setting up, doing maintenance, or if you are selling only to select clients. The default setting for the storefront password on new stores is turned on.

Caution

Enabling a storefront password will also block search engines (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing) from crawling your website and including your content in the organic search engine results pages (SERPs). If you want search engines to "see" your store, the password must be disabled.

To password protect your storefront:

  1. From your shop admin, go to the Settings > General page.

  2. From the General page, scroll down to the Storefront password field.

  3. Check the Password protect your storefront. A new section will appear.

  4. Enter your new password in the editable text field.

  5. Add in a message for your visitors in the editable text field (optional).

  6. Click Save.

Remove your storefront password

When you're ready to reveal your store to the world, you can easily remove your storefront password protection.

To remove your storefront password:
